Globe At Home Air Fiber 5G makes the Philippines the first country in Southeast Asia to experience 5G technology

Imagine speeds 20 times your present internet speed.

The future is here. Globe just recently became the first to introduce 5G fixed wireless broadband in the Philippines and Southeast Asia. Globe CEO Ernest Cu said “Globe At Home Air Fiber 5G makes use of fixed location wireless radios instead of fiber optic cables which enables the company to go over the circuitous approval process of deploying a fiber optic cable – a task which proves to be arduous and involves securing multiple permits from local government units (LGUs). The right of process can sometimes take years to obtain, causing drastic delays in fiber optic roll-out completion”. Cu says that from a base station, the last mile will be wirelessly beamed to the homes of Globe Air Fiber 5G subscribers.

Gil Genio, Globe’s Chief Technology Officer and Chief Strategy Officer, pointed out just how hungry subscribers are for data. From the first quarter of 2018 to the first quarter of 2019, Globe mobile data traffic DOUBLED, from 180 petabytes to 370 petabytes, and that continues to grow exponentially.

But fiber has a lot of challenges – permits, rights of way, and the high cost of making a mistake, Genio said. A more efficient way is 5G. It is a solution for those who need internet and whose needs for bandwidth increase annually. 5G  is about 10x faster than 3G and deployment is expected to be a lot faster than fiber by as much as 8 months.

Homes are also undergoing constant transformation due to how we use our internet connection at home. There are appliances for the home that are already connected and remotely controlled — the Internet of Things (IoT). Audio and video streaming is at all all-time high and continues to increase.

Here’s what 5G speeds look like.

Air Fiber 5G technology will enable the use of the IoT in the home. Appliances can be easily controlled from any place; gaming will be much faster and smoother with low latency; security will be more convenient as one can now monitor different rooms in the home from anywhere at home or remotely; and, entertainment will be more seamless, reliable and intuitive.

Each Air Fiber 5G subscriber home will have a receiving device which is so small and yet so powerful. Because of its size, it could sit inconspicuously anywhere at home.

By July 2019, Globe At Home Air Fiber 5G postpaid plans will be available. Initially, Globe At Home Air Fiber 5G will be offered in homes in Pasig, Cavite and Bulacan. Plans come at P1899 per month for up to 20Mbps, P2499 for up to 50Mbps and P2899 for up to 100Mbps. All will come with up to 2TB data packages.
