One word to describe the LG OLED C1: O-Some!!!

I was not quite ready to replace our old LED TV. The kids hardly ever watched TV anymore and just used it to play PS4 games. I was the only one at home watching the news on TV.

For months, it had this line across the bottom part of the screen. It could get distracting at times but as the rest of the screen was still okay, I tolerated it. Till one day, the entire screen began dancing. No amount of restarting the TV could resolve the issue. It was a goner.

The kids wanted to get a new TV. They still needed one for their PS4. But what TV to get?

Me? I would have readily settled for another LED TV. But our techie son? Nah! His dream was to finally have an OLED TV! He had been reading about OLED TVs for some time already but always found the price beyond reasonable reach. So his strategy was to aim for the best OLED TV there is in the market and wait for it to go on sale. Our TV went on the blink just in time because he had identified the LG OLED C1 as the TV to get and LG had just announced the launch of the C2.

It’s been a month or so watching TV with our LG 48-inch  C1 OLED TV and all I can say is O-SOME!!!

The black is as pitch black as it can get. I remember how we darkened the room as my son started up Apple TV. The first thing that comes out is the Apple logo against an all black background. On our old LED TV, that first image was just an ordinary image. But on the OLED TV, it began with a really dark black background and when the Apple TV logo came on, it was so bright that I was temporarily blinded by the flash of white! WHOA!

This is a gaming TV as well. I watched the kids play on their PS4 a few times. The vibrant colors and crisp images are just stunning.

I actually enjoy watching TV now more than ever. I binge-watch Korean dramas on it because the colors are just so much more real. I have a smaller LED TV in the bedroom and I have to say, after watching on the OLED and I turn on our LED TV, the colors look washed out!

There is one thing though that my son insists on. If I watch anything, especially on YouTube, that has a permanent logo on one part of the screen all throughout, I should not watch it on the OLED TV because the logo could shorten the life of the live pixels in that area. Haha! That means all my YouTube news that have news station logos permanently on the screen have to be watched elsewhere. Small price to pay for a wonderful visual experience though.

Here are a few photos I took of images on the LG OLED C1. Notice that I cannot even distinguish between the TV’s black and the blackness of the room. If not for the image borders, I could not tell where the room’s lighting ended and where the TV’s borders began. All that is visible is the TV stand.

You can’t go wrong with the LG OLED C1. It’s got rave reviews and is actually up there as probably the best (or one of the best) in its class. Price-wise, it has dropped considerably ever since the newer C2 was released. The 48-inch model we have has shed over PhP 30,000 from its original launch price. Value for money-wise, this is it!

My TV watching has just gone up several notches. So has the gaming of the kids. No regrets listening to my son!
