HP continues to advance sustainability, inclusivity and equity, and security

“At this moment in history, and from this point forward, companies will be judged by more than the profits they generate. They will be measured by the value they create for society.” ~ Enrique Lores, HP President and CEO

This was Lores’ quote, captured in HP’s 2020 Sustainable Impact Report — a clear signal of HP’s continuing move to add value to society. The report specifically mentions three directions:  sustainability, inclusion and equity, and security. These are reflected in their company culture as well as in their products.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability efforts

HP’s sustainability efforts are staggered to achieve certain goals by milestone years:

  • Moving to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) across its value chain by 2040 beginning with its Supplies business and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030
  • Reduce GHG emissions in its value chain by 50% by 2030
  • Reach carbon neutrality and zero waste in its operations by 2025
  • Reach 75% circularity for its products and packaging by 2030
  • Empty HP ink cartridges are also being recycled, with 4-75% of the recycled plastic used for more than 85% of new cartridges
  • 100% of its original ink toners has 1-75% post-consumer or post-industrial recycled plastic content
  • The HP Elite Dragonfly and the HP ZBook Studio, the world’s first notebook and mobile workstation, are made from ocean-bound plastics
  • The HP Elite Display Monitor E273D contains the equivalent of more than three 16-oz plastic bottles

INCLUSION AND EQUITY

Inclusion and Equity

HP has created a culture of inclusion and equity within and outside the workplace. Women make up as much as 57% of HP’s global workforce (in legal, finance, HR, marketing, and communication roles), and 32% are in leadership roles (director level or above).

The company has also launched programs to bridge the gap in education such as the HP LIFE, a free, skill-training program for entrepreneurs, business owners, and lifelong learners all over the world. They also conducted a local donation drive of over 400 units of HP Neverstop Laser printers to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), reaching thousands of students and teachers across the nation who are adapting to remote learning.

SECURITY

HP recognizes that the current landscape of remote work exposes businesses to a lot of data breaches, including malware and phishing. Here are some security features of its products:

  • Sure View – guards sensitive information visible on the screen by making it difficult for onlookers to see from the sides.
  • Sure Click – secures PCs from malware lurking on malicious websites
  • Sure Start – automatically detects, stops, and recovers from an attack or corruption, with little to no interruption
  • Sure Run – helps keep critical processes running, even if malware is trying to shut them down
  • Webcam Kill-Switch – prevents hackers from accessing the front-facing camera

HP also makes printing more convenient with Roam for Business. This makes it easier to print on the go from a mobile device and retrieve the output at any HP Roam-enabled printer within the network. Secure Print stores data until authentication at the device and print job release.
