Meet some of the brands that make up the 2017 Taiwan Excellence campaign
ACER, ASUS, MSI, Tatung….
Sounds familiar, right? Their common thread is that they are some of the leading Taiwan brands that make up Taiwan Excellence.
On its fourth year of bringing quality products to the Filipino household, the Taiwan Excellence campaign is sponsored by Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) and the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT), and organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA). Many of the more than 150 products from 52 accredited brands featured in their 2017 campaign are already known in the local market, well-received, and part of the Filipinos’ daily lives. TAITRA is expanding its events for the year to highlight the innovation, reliability, and durability of these brands.
Mr. James Chu, Minister of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines said that Taiwan is a recognized global leader in ICT products. He went on to say that “Taiwanese companies account for 89% of the world’s production of notebooks and 74% of the world’s desktop PCs. Taiwan also produces a quarter of the world’s semiconductors and a fifth of the world’s smartphones”. Evidence of Taiwan’s strong ties with the Philippines is the fact that, in 2016, Taiwan was the Philippines’ 10th largest trading partner and its 8th biggest export market.
This year, several interesting products caught my eye at the exhibition area as well as during the” fashion show of brands”.
The Tatung Fusion Cooker is a fusion of a nonstick grill pan for steaming and grilling plus a nonstick waterless pot for cooking by using only the food’s natural juices,
A portable scooter for the convenient mobility of physically handicapped or senior people, the Heartway S19 Scooter Brio weighs only 27kg and comes with a lithium battery and folds up or down at the touch of a lever. When folded, it has the dimensions of a 24″ luggage.
At 1.1kgs and 9.98mm narrow, the Swift 7 is the slimmest and lightest laptop in Acer’s line. Despite its tiny footprint, the Swift 7 claims to deliver about 9 hours of battery life.
From the world’s smallest laptop, we were shown what is probably the world’s most humongous gaming laptop from Acer – the Predator 21. If you are a true-blooded gamer awash with cash, this PhP 549,999 laptop may just be the answer to your dreams. This laptop giant comes with a curved 21-inch screen that weighs 20 lbs. It also comes with a removable touchpad that reverses into a numeric keypad.
And in another creative moment, I got a glimpse of the world’s first PAPER digital camera – the Hinoki Digital Camera. Weighing less than 80 grams and powered by two AA batteries, this point-and-shoot camera’s cover casing is made from heavy-stock paper and has only one button for easy operation. Photos are saved into an SD card.
