LG G6: The feature-rich smartphone with a huge screen that fits in one hand
A huge 5.7″ screen, 4GB RAM, internal 64GB storage capacity expandable to 2TB with a memory card, 3300mAh battery.
Those are just some of the features one can find in the newly launched LG G6 smartphone.
Following the numerous awards the G5 smartphone garnered at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in 2016, the LG G6 is likewise hailed as the best smartphone of MWC 2017 by global tech experts such as Wired, Android Authority, Digital Trends, PCMag, and TeachRadar.
The launch of the G6 was held at the SM Mega Fashion Hall with several celebrity ambassadors: Yael Yuzon (lead singer of the band SpongeCola), Spot.ph’s Owen Maddela, JP Habac (director of the local blockbuster ‘I’m drunk, I Love You’), social media influencer Janeena Chan, LA Tenorio, and Sharlene San Pedro. The LG G6 retails at PhP 37,990. It comes in 3 colors: Icy Platinum, Mystic White, and Astro Black.
Here are some of the LG G6’s key features.
Bigger screen display – The LG G6 comes with a 5.7-inch QHD+ FullVision display and an 18:9 screen-to-body ratio. This is better than the conventional 16:9 aspect ratio displays of other smartphones because it provides more viewing space for a more immersive experience when streaming videos or playing games.
Easy to hold despite larger screen display – The smartphone is larger vertically giving the desired screen real estate but still allowing the user to hold and operate the smartphone with one hand. Made from aluminum and glass, the G6 sports a minimalist look with rounded corners, very narrow bezels and a flat back with the camera recessed for better protection.
Dolby Vision technology – The LG G6 claims it is the first smartphone to use Dolby Vision technology. Aside from supporting Dolby vision, it also supports HDR 10. That makes watching Netflix movies so much better. The G6 also features superior audio via its Hi Fi Quad DAC audio quality.
Dual 13MP rear cameras and a wide-angle 5MP front camera, all with standard and wide angle settings, give the G6 user a wider range of options when taking photos. The 125-degree wide-angle lens of the rear cameras lets you capture a wider perspective and include more friends in the screen. Meanwhile, the wide-angle front camera makes taking selfies a greater experience.
One feature that captured my attention was the camera’s Square Mode as demonstrated onstage by blogger Janeena Chan. It can divide the screen into two identical squares so you can actually take simultaneous photos and see both on the screen (review last shot, preview the next), edit and upload, and make creative Instagram shots. You can create 2×2 grid shots of photos and videos and even recreate photos with a guide image.
Dust and Water Resistance – Sleek in design but quite rugged — that is the LG G6. It can be immersed in up to 1.5 meters of water for as long as 30 minutes. In addition, it has a metal frame and heat pipe that dissolves heat so your phone is protected from overheating. Even better, it has passed 14 different military-standard tests that include tests in rain, fog, humidity, and temperature.
