Smart Family Ties: Savings, Security and Connectivity within the Family
(Note: Read all the way down because Smart is doing different weekly Instagram contests. Major and minor prizes up for grabs at the end of the promo.)
When family members are separated during the day, trying to stay connected and in touch can rack up quite a bill. I have 4 kids and all throughout their school years, my dilemma often would be ensuring that they had enough load so that they could reach me during an emergency and vice versa, or simply communicate with the yaya or driver regarding fetching hours.
Last January, Smart began offering the Family Ties Plans — a family-oriented combo of postpaid plans that allow family members to stay in touch with each other without breaking the bank.
This is how Smart Family Ties works.
You have a choice of two postpaid plans. Family Ties Plan 900 includes unlimited calls within the family circle, unlimited texts to Smart, 200 texts to all networks and 100 MB free data PER LINE, EVERY MONTH. Plan 900 comes with 3 postpaid lines and 3 handsets, all under ONE account.
On the other hand, Family Ties Plan 1800 comes with unlimited calls AND texts to Smart subscribers, 200 free texts to all networks and 300 MB free data on EACH LINE, EVERY MONTH.
One can add up to 6 family members under each plan. Just add PhP 300 per line for Plan 900 and PhP 600 per line for Plan 1800.
Only ONE billing statement will be produced for all three lines but each line will have its own details. If a parent wants to teach the kids how to budget strictly, it is easy to tell which one exceeded his monthly allocation.
Smart’s Postpaid Flexibundles are also available in case any family member wants to subscribe to additional services beyond what the Family Ties plan offers.
Here are the handsets given FREE under each Family Ties plan.
Vodafone’s Guardian App
Smart also tied up with Vodafone to allow Family Ties plans to incorporate its Guardian app in the handsets. The Guardian app allows parents to set call and text-messaging filters and ban certain numbers from contacting their children (a boon when it comes to controlling cyberbullying and stalking). The app also allows parents to ban the use of games during set hours or days so that the kids can focus on homework. The app is also flexible enough so that it protects the children depending on how strict or liberal their parenting styles are.
Here is a sample of how to navigate the Guardian app.

I think Family Ties is best suited for parents with younger kids. They stay connected and secure to you. You don’t need to worry about them running out of load because their plans are postpaid. And yet you can control the mobile costs while keeping them safe at the same time.

Instagram Promo
For this week until March 21, Smart Family Ties is hosting its first of several Instagram contests. It’s simple. Just upload on your Instagram account any photo depicting this week’s theme: graduation.
The photo doesn’t have to be a recent one. You can dig up an old photo like those used for #ThrowbackThursday or #FlashbackFriday. Just be sure to tag #SmartFamilyTies when you post on Instagram.
Smart will collect the entries until March 21. All Instagram photos chosen will run on Smart’s ads from March 28 to April 5, 2014.
Stay tuned and keep checking this blog because there will be more Instagram promos after this week. And at the end, there will be major and minor prizes at stake for all those who join.
