Globe Education Solutions: Using world-class platforms for schools

There was a time when kids’ schoolbags weighed a ton, filled with thick books and numerous notebooks, giving parents like me angst about our kids’ future posture and shoulder problems.
There was a time when teachers manually graded school work and orally gave exams, when grades were painstakingly computed, printed out on paper report cards, and mailed out to parents or given to students.
There was a time when textbooks were limited to textbook authors and teachers had to select the best (and the least likely to have errors) textbooks to include in their syllabus.

Those days are almost over if integrated educational ecosystems such as those being offered now by Globe Education Solutions become the norm in most schools. At a recent presentation, Globe announced their partnership with three other international companies that offer tech solutions for the academe: D2L Learning, Globals and Flipside.

Brightspace by D2L

D2L is a global leader in cloud-based learning and education technology. It is the creator of Brightspace, the world’s first integrated learning platform. D2L’s open and extensible platform is used by over 1,100 companies and more than 15 million individual learners.

Brightspace is an integrated learning platform that seamlessly connects digital content, learning analytics, mobile and collaboration tools and adaptive learning with an ecosystem of applications, resources and services.

I saw a Physics 101 demo that showed how so many classroom-related things could be put online – reading assignments, quiztaking, grading, teacher feedback, grading and more.

A homescreen could contain the syllabus, videos, notifications, calendar and more

Quizzes can be administered online and graded immediately
Not only can a student see real-time if he is correct or not, but if he is wrong, he can click links to reinforcement lessons
Students can see their progress summary (grades, topics visited, discussions, etc)

Educube by Globals

Educube by Globals is a school management system with worldwide recognition. Its focus is on empowering educators to achieve their objectives. Their solutions help make management of school operations more efficient. Globals has grown to a multinational company with its presence in over 11 countries across the world. And believe this or not. Its CEO, Suhas Gopinath, founded Globals when he was only 14 years old. And he is just 28 now!

  • student and staff information management system that records attendance and grades
  • staff report
  • admissions, tuition, payroll and fees management system
  • calendar and class time table generator
  • student report card generator

The system is accessible on multiple mobile devices, either at home or at the office.

E-Book Solutions by Flipside

Flipside is a publisher, conversion house, aggregator and distributor of e-books and other digital reading materials. The company has long had experience in e-book production since its parent company has been converting titles into major e-book formats for big-name publishers like Pan MacMillan UK, Simon & Schuster, Taylor & Francis and Hachette UK, among others. In 2014, Flipside was recognized as the only Filipino company to be listed by Apple under Approved ePub Conversion & Delivery Houses and only one of two service providers with capability to produce all advanced ePub 3.0 features in iBooks.

Now, teachers in schools are able to publish their own textbooks. In my kids’ school, when they were still in elementary and high school, we were already using textbooks that were being written by in-house teachers. This gave exposure and experience in textbook writing to teachers.  At the same time, I believe the quality of such textbooks were higher than those often found in book stores. Now that these textbooks can be converted into digital format, the textbooks can go beyond just the school’s boundaries and hopefully can be made available to a wider public.

What would schools need to do then to avail of Globe Education Solutions? Here is a quick infographic I got from the event.
