SPINNR – the Philippines’ first mobile-linked all-in music service

Around this time last year, Smart Communications, Inc. launched Smart Music which allowed subscribers to purchase music tracks from MCA at very reasonable prices and download full, licensed versions into one’s device.

However, the tastes and habits of music lovers always evolve as technology and access to the internet changes and expands. A Smart executive I was talking to said that they saw more Pinoys spending greater amounts of time on their mobile phones. While there were some who liked to own music tracks, others wanted to listen to music other than what they had in their playlists. The trend towards music streaming is what SPINNR is all about — an application powered by Smart Music which is accessible via web and mobile browser as well as through an Android app.

I was able to attend SPINNR’s launch along with other music-loving bloggers.

With SPINNR, Smart is now able to offer a music-streaming subscription service with unlimited access to more than 3 million songs from the catalogs of worldwide music leaders MCA Music Inc. (known internationally as Universal Music Group, Inc.) and Sony Music Entertainment through a partnership with local licensee Ivory Music and Video.

For as low as PhP15 for two weeks, subscribers will get to listen to unlimited, full-track music streaming of a wide selection of songs — from current chart-toppers like Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake and One Direction to classic oldies, hard-to-find tracks and OPM favorites. What differentiates SPINNR is its interactive and social feature. Aside from creating and predefining one’s own playlists, you can get recommendations based on your likes, and share favorite songs on Twitter and Facebook.

Creating a SPINNR membership is really easy because all you need is to use your Smart, Talk ‘N Text or Sun Cellular mobile number. A credit card is not needed because you can pay using your prepaid load or charging it to your postpaid bill. With a single account, you can use the web, mobile or app access to access your music library.

SPINNR Plus 15 – Aside from the PhP 15 for two weeks, this package also offers a 20% discount for full song downloads. That effectively brings down what you pay per song (regular download rate is PhP 10-15 per song).

‘Hangout’ with One Direction Promo

One lucky Filipino fan of British band One Direction will be able to VIRTUALLY meet, greet and talk with them via a 1-hour Google Hangout during the band’s “1D Day” global event on November 23, 2013.
